John R. Lane is one of the founding partners of Frommer Lawrence & Haug LLP. Mr. Lane has diverse experience in the intellectual property practice both in the U.S. and on an international scale. His practice is concentrated in the areas of patent, trademark, and unfair competition litigation before federal trial and appellate courts, including bench and jury trials involving several technologies. His cases and clients range from famous brands and high-end consumer products to shape memory alloys, polymer chemistry, biochemistry and pharmaceuticals.

In addition to litigation, he has extensive experience in supervising the preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications, licensing, due diligence investigations, and opinion work in patent, trademark, trade secret and unfair competition law. Mr. Lane has practiced in foreign jurisdictions, particularly before the U.K. Patent Courts, and has experience in supervising cases before the German Federal Supreme Court and the Court of Milan. He has also represented clients in oppositions before the European Patent Office and the Japanese Patent Office.

During and after his undergraduate studies, Mr. Lane worked as a mechanical engineer in product design and development for General Motors Corporation with expertise in materials, science and automotive engineering. Prior to the founding of the firm, Mr. Lane practiced intellectual property law with leading trial advocates before the British Bar in London, England where he qualified as a barrister and is a member of the Middle Temple.

He served as a member of the Committee on Patents of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and is a founding member of the New York County Lawyers Inn of Court, the first Inn Chapter established in Manhattan. He has also published articles and presented lectures in several areas of intellectual property law and advocacy.
