Steven M. Amundson is a partner in the New York office of Frommer Lawrence & Haug LLP.

Mr. Amundson concentrates his practice in the area of intellectual-property litigation, including presuit investigations, discovery and trial preparation, trials, and appeals. His cases have involved disputes over patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and unfair competition. He has dealt with a broad range of technologies, such as:

- computers,
- electronic devices,
- electromagnetic products,
- semiconductor fabrication,
- medical devices,
- chemicals and pharmaceuticals
(including "blockbuster" prescription drugs).

In his practice, Mr. Amundson has handled a wide variety of legal issues, such as infringement and validity analyses, jurisdictional questions, discovery in complex, consolidated cases, cross-border discovery, evidentiary questions at trial, and arguments on appeal.

Mr. Amundson offers his clients outstanding litigation skills, courtroom experience, principled advocacy, and a sophisticated understanding of the technical and legal issues likely to arise in intellectual-property cases. As a result, he can provide insightful case evaluation, including the costs and benefits of litigation, cost-efficient case development, and forceful case presentation.

Mr. Amundson attended The Ohio State University on an NROTC scholarship. After receiving his M.S. degree from Ohio State, Mr. Amundson worked as a nuclear propulsion engineer for the Naval Sea Systems Command, which was then headed by Admiral Hyman Rickover. As an engineer for the Navy, Mr. Amundson was responsible for design review and approval of electrical instrumentation and control equipment for naval nuclear propulsion plants.

Mr. Amundson attended Georgetown University Law Center while working for the Navy. After receiving his J.D. degree, he specialized in intellectual-property law in New York City.

From 1988 to 1997, Mr. Amundson was a trial attorney with the Intellectual Property Section of the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., where he was lead trial counsel in patent and copyright cases and also argued appeals before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Mr. Amundson is a member of the New York State Bar as well as the District of Columbia Bar and is a registered patent attorney. He is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, several United States District Courts as well as the Court of Federal Claims.
